In June 2014, we ran our first ever Four Rivers in Ireland trip. That year we rowed River Slaney in County Wexford. There was the wonderful scenery and fabulous wildlife (seals and hundreds of swans) but the special feature was that we rowed traditional river cots. Edermine Ferry Rowing Club was our gracious host. Cots are fixed seat coxed quads, with sweep rowing and no feathering. The local coxswains regaled us with stories of the local history, rowing traditions and recent racing accomplishments. There are some excellent articles that explain more about these wooden boats, and it was fun to see “our” boats that we rowed featured! (Please note that in the current program, we may be rowing River Slaney again, however with our usual high quality touring quads.)
