Boldly Row Where No Man (or Woman) Has Rowed Before

Happy Star Trek Day, a fan day celebrated April 5th because that’s when first contact between Humans and Vulcans happened in the science fiction sensation that is Star Trek. And if puppies can have a day, why not Star Trek fans?

So, in honour of Star Trek Day, or First Contact Day, we bring you this collection of rowing trips where no one has rowed before. Slight exaggeration, we confess. But, Rowing the World is known for selecting rowing trips in places you wouldn’t think of rowing in, such as Belize, South Africa, or over the equator in the Maldives, because of their differences. Read on to explore bold new worlds in the pursuit of rowing. And the pursuit of hiking. And great food. Interesting art. When we’re done pursuing, we’ll relax, chat with fine new friends, and sample some fine local wine. Beam me up, now.

“Resistance is futile” Lago Maggiore, Italy

May 25 to 31, 2017

Rowing The World - Lago Maggiore

When you are off the water and re-carbing and, ahem, hydrating, “Resistance is futile” against the excellent fine wines and food fare that Italy comes up with. Embrace the place, live in the pasta and let the wines of the Old Country flow as you chat with new rowing friends made on the lake. If you can’t join us in May, we are doing this trip again September 12 to 18, 2017.

“Highly Illogical” Four Rivers Ireland

June 11 to 17, 2017

Rowing The World - Four Rivers Ireland

Spock would think it “highly illogical” to choose to row in Ireland and expect sunshine, but we will be in the sunny Southeast part of the country for this trip, rowing in coxed touring quads with four days of rowing on four different rivers. Options for hiking, cycling and visiting the lovely Kilkenny on bright sunny days might make you raise an eyebrow, but we promise you’ll be smitten. If time is tight, join us in Ireland October 13 to 15th for a quick weekend rowing trip.

“Make it so.” Central Europe

June 15 to 25, 2017

Rowing The World - Prague-Budapest

Our partnered trip with iRow Tours will include guided tours in Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, nine 1.5 hour rowing outings on incredible waters and 10 nights of upscale accommodation in some of Europe’s most intriguing places. As Captain Jean-Luc Picard would say in Star Trek: The Next Generation, “Make it so.”

“I’m givin’ her all she’s got, Captain.” Kelowna, BC, Canada

Dates for summer coming soon.

Rowing The World - Kelowna

You may be saying “I’m givin’ her all she’s got, Captain,” what Chief Engineer “Scotty” was rumored to have said in Star Trek: The Original Series, when you try Oar Board rowing in British Columbia’s stunning Okanagan Valley. You’ll be givin’ her on the water, in the vineyards and on the Oar Boards on this amazing trip. If you haven’t yet tried oar boarding, you must! Basically, it is a rower with sliding feet and riggers strapped on to a stand-up paddle board. The photo below was taken when we used Oar Boards in Belize – an unusual but fun rowing trip over water the color of toothpaste gel.

“Set Phasers to Stun” South Africa

March 27 – April 10, 2017

South Africa - Western Cape 4

Rowing the World has not one but two trips to South Africa, one that just happened on the Western Cape and one now happening on the Eastern Cape. “Set phasers to stun” a line uttered by Kirk first in the second season of Star Trek: The Animated Series is what you’ll be uttering too when you join us next year in 2018.

Check www.rowingtheworld.com for other rowing trips to places you can boldly row where no man or woman has rowed before. Or, for the traditionalists among you, places that have been rowed before. Oxford, anyone? Contact us first.
