“It was an amazing experience. What I have not told you is that I had kept a postcard from Florence that my daughter sent 10 years ago, of a sculler on the Arno with the Ponte Vecchio in the background. She sent me that before either of us had ever rowed. Now I have pictures of myself in that same location. I took the postcard along to Italy so that I could figure out exactly where it was. That was not hard!! You arranged for the exact rowing club where that rower came from. I plan to frame the postcard and my picture side by side.”
Barbara from Marin Rowing Association in California realized her dream of rowing on the Arno this October. What an iconic row. Vivienne from Vic City Rowing Club in British Columbia also fulfilled her dream of the Arno in September, following the World Rowing Masters Regatta in Varese. And I got to tag along. It was spectacular. The historic boat house is built into the bank under the Uffizi. Out on the water in the double, we were oblivious to the crowds jamming the streets and bridges. We were rowing in Florence, on the Arno and under the Ponte Vecchio. What could be more perfect? Thank you Alberto!
