A Swell Adventure to Test Your Mettle – Row the Open Ocean

Are we crazy? No, but deeply intrigued. Here’s more on Shoreseeker, our latest Rowing Travel Hub partner, and how they deliver the potential of a transformative experience to just about anyone.

Shoreseeker is an open water adventure rowing company designed to bring the incredible experience of ocean rowing to a wider audience, no prior experience required. They have everything from Taster Days on the ocean to week-long challenges.

Shoreseeker was founded in 2015 by Tom Salt, who completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Rowing Challenge in 2014. He realized that his experience of a simple life at sea, undertaking a vast challenge in a largely unknown environment was one that many would be keen to try. But finding a half-ton ocean boat and equipment, not to mention finding the time for training, kept ocean adventures out of reach for most.

Shoreseeker was born to make open water rowing something anyone can experience. They will train you, equip you and team you up with like-minded adventurers. All you need to do is adjust to shared-life on board a 30-foot boat and keep it moving. Yep, you too can row the open ocean.

To take a challenge and row in one of the six Western Mediterranean race series July to September,  you must first take six days of on-the-water and  shore-based training all at once or spread out over a few months on days that work for you. The training includes such things as first aid, sea survival and daylight rows.

June 8 is World Oceans Day and June 5 is World Environment Day with the theme Reconnecting With Nature. No doubt on a Shoreseeker Open Water Rowing Challenge, while you’re rowing in the rain on a pitch-black night over the Mediterranean Ocean, you will be reconnecting with nature. And having the challenge of a lifetime!
